"When I'm leading a discussion I can't wait to ask the next question."   - parent volunteer

"The prepared prompts are so good: evaluative, thought provoking, fun!" - 1st grade teacher

"Can we do this again – SOON?"  - 4th grade student

Welcome to Classic Books, a PTSA-sponsored reading enrichment program. The purpose of the program: reading for pure pleasure. No testing, no evaluation – just a joyous approach to children’s literature in which students read a book then discuss it in small, parent-led groups.

Would you like to join us? We’re asking for volunteers at every grade level. Volunteers read the book and then lead small group discussions using prepared discussion questions. (See below for sample questions.) There are no right answers.  We encourage students to "own" their books, and to venture their own opinions.

Moms and dads who work outside the home find it convenient to volunteer with Classic Books because it’s a one-time-only one hour commitment that can be scheduled in advance.

We hope you’ll join us. Please e-mail us with your questions. In advance, thank you. We guarantee you’ll have fun!
