Position About

Marie Franco

Marie is currently serving her second year as PTSA President after filling other Board roles of Secretary and VP of Membership in prior years. She has also been an active Art Docent teaching monthly art lessons in the classroom during her tenure at Einstein and has assisted with other PTSA programs including our Fall Fundraiser, Spring Fun Run, Community Serve Day, Staff Appreciation, Classic Books and Reflections. When not volunteering at Einstein, she runs a small business, enjoys Jazzercise, spending time with family and attending her children’s baseball and softball games.

After eight years at Einstein, this is what Marie had to say about her experience. “I feel fortunate that both my children were students of Einstein Elementary. It is a great school with amazing staff, teachers, and parent community. I am proud of the impact our PTSA has made and am confident this group will continue to do great things in years to come.”

Catherine Hendrickson
First VP

Catherine has served on the Einstein PTSA board for 5 years, currently in her second year as Vice President and previously as VP of Volunteers. In addition to being VP, she is co-chair the Otters Fun Run and volunteers on PTSA programs as needed. Outside of Einstein, she spends her time driving the kids to their various activities, working as a CPA at a local accounting firm and trying to exercise.

Catherine had this to say about her volunteer time at Einstein. "What I really enjoy about this position is the ability to focus on special assignments such as playground fundraising, outreach to Emerald Heights, setting up the staff favorite things and wish list, among other projects. Being an active volunteer is very rewarding. I’ve gained a greater understanding and appreciation that it really takes a village to provide our kids a meaningful experience at Einstein. I’ve learned that the PTSA is an organization that encourages you to step outside your comfort zone to try new things. As different needs come up, you learn to rise to the occasion to get it done. For example, I never imagined that I’d have the courage or ability to ask people to give their time or money to support Einstein. But as Fun Run co-chair and VP of Volunteers, I’ve developed skills to network, approach people, explain the needs and get their help. A further lasting benefit of my involvement is meeting other families that have become great friends outside of school. My family has cherished our time at Einstein and are glad to be part of such a supportive and welcoming community."

Ashley Marcu

Ashley is currently Einstein PTSA's Treasurer, a position that is very important to our organization. As Treasurer, Ashley administers and manages the PTSA's finances. She has been at Einstein for 5 years and also helps in her children's classrooms and volunteers regularly at school events. Asked about her current role, Ashley says, "I am the current PTSA Treasurer and I love my position because I get to see all the inner workings of our PTSA and where our funds go! I love math and have a degree in Finance. I enjoy helping at big and small events from books fairs, to student stores to family events and fundraisers. In my position I also get to build close relationships with our staff, parents and even the local bank. There is never a dull moment as Treasurer."

Neeta Check
VP Communications

Neeta is currently serving as the Vice President of Communications which oversees Ottermail, online content and where ever other communications assistance is needed such as flyers, First Day and Fun Run Packets. Prior to this, she had been VP of Student Activities for two years. She's also volunteered as a Fruit Cutter and helps out in the classroom whenever needed. As a Redmond Elementary parent, she is also involved with the Redmond Elementary PTSA as Student Directory Chair and previously as the Enrichment Coordinator during the last year.

In her sixth year at Einstein Elementary, Neeta says "I really enjoy being part of the Communications team. I've always been interested in designing websites and putting together newsletters like Ottermail and flyers, so this is a really creative outlet for me. Also, since I volunteer at two schools, time is limited but this role allows me to work on my computer at home at my convenience. It's nice to know that I'm helping out the community doing what I enjoy."

Jenn Downing
VP Fundraising

Jenn is currently serving in her second year as VP of Fundraising. She is also the Co-chair of the Otters Fun Run, a room parent for each of her two boys' classrooms and volunteers weekly in the classroom assisting the teachers with computers, reading, math and production. In the past Jenn has participated in Fruit Cutting, Science Fair, International night and Running Club. Outside of her involvement at Einstein, Jenn works as an Inpatient Pharmacist at the University of Washington Medical Center, volunteers at her Catholic church in Woodinville and is frequently spotted running on the Power Line Trail in Redmond.

In her fourth year at Einstein, Jenn feels that "being involved with the PTSA has really given me great insight into how hard our faculty, staff and parent volunteers work to make the educational and social experiences at Einstein impactful. There is so much that goes on behind the scenes that I was unaware of until I joined the PTSA. I continue to be amazed by everything that is accomplished by this Einstein Community. It is fun to come up with various ways to generate money for the PTSA programs. As VP of Fundraising I have really enjoyed tapping into the generosity of not only our Einstein families but also the local businesses that support our PTSA through community partnerships and sponsorships. It is definitely a 'feel good' board position."

Marisa Kennedy
Co-VP Student Activities

Marisa moved to Redmond from New Jersey with her family last June and volunteered to take on the role of VP of Student Activities. Here's what Marisa said about being a part of the PTSA. "I was so impressed with the PSTA, they welcomed me and made me feel included. Becoming a board member was a great way to meet friends, learn about the school community and culture and have an impact on my children's learning. I truly feel like I am in the loop and aware of the important things affecting my children at school. I enjoy being the VP of Student Activities because I like getting to plan and select the classes that will be offered to our students. I have a background in Marketing and Communications, and so I also enjoy promoting the classes, as well as setting up the registration system and website for enrollment. One of the biggest benefits I see overall is just how proud and excited my kids are that I am a Board member and how my involvement encourages them to be involved as well and more engaged in their day to day learning at Einstein."

Chris Cordes
Co-VP Student Activities

Chris is part of the Student Activities team. Her son is in first grade class and her husband is a game designer at Bungie. Before becoming a stay-at-home mom, she worked in Marketing Research for many years, the last 15 of those at Microsoft.

Chris says "I enjoy the Student Activities role because it helps to build community among students and their families while the kids are having fun. Student Activities provide a way for our kids to dabble in a wide variety of hobbies to help them identify things that interest them. With the activities held before or after school, it cuts down on driving for parents and makes it easy for kids to enjoy activities with their Einstein friends. I like making these opportunities available for our kids and enjoy the social aspects of being a part of the PTSA board."

Shilpa Dhananjayan
Co-VP Family Events

Shilpa is currently serving as Co-VP of Family Events. She is Reflections Co-Chair, GEAC ambassador, Art Docent and co-ordinates enrichment programs such as passport club for her child's classroom. Prior to this, she has been Enrichment Director, Art Coordinator and Reflection Chair in Ben Rush Elementary. She has also been working with the district to roll out Deep Space sparkle in Ben Rush.

She says, "We moved to Einstein as part of Quest family. It was overwhelming to start in a new place and I chose to be part of the board to understand and blend in with school and parents. Constructive discussions in board meetings always lead to choices which are acceptable to everyone. It is a rewarding experience to see the world through different lens. Being Co-VP of Family Events gives me an opportunity to express my creativity and organize events which brings whole community together."
