After You Register / Process

  • Rules: Please view the official 2019-20 Rules for Local Spelling Bees
  • Study Materials will be made accessible after registration:
    • At that time, please download the Word and Vocabulary List (450 words) and have your child start preparing. The Word and Vocabulary List will be used for the Preliminary Written Round. The kids are expected to know the meaning of all the words. It will be a multiple-choice test along with 10 words given to spell. The Preliminary Written Round pattern will also be emailed in December to the email used to register for the Spelling Bee.
    • There is also a Words of the Champions 2020 List (1000+ words). It is recommended to review this list as some words from this guide will be used in the Final School Spelling Bee if we exhaust the list of 450 words. The Words of the Champions 2020 List will also be useful for the School winner, who will be participating in the regional competition in Seattle.
    • The Bee’s Great Words, Great Works Reading List includes engaging, grade-appropriate books for elementary and middle school students. All of the words from 2020 School Spelling Bee can be found in the list of books, allowing your students to get in-depth knowledge of the usage of those words.
    • It takes hard work and dedication to earn the title of best speller in the world! These are Scripps' top Study Tips for success at every level, from classroom to school and regional to national levels.
    • It is recommended that you use http://www.merriam-webster.com to hear the pronunciation of each and every word. It also has details about the origin of the word, examples, alternate pronunciation and meaning. This website is recommended by Scripps for pronunciation. The Pronouncer will use this site as the standard for both, final school spelling bee and the regionals.
